  • 0. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the pulp with a spoon. Place the avocado pulp in a bowl and mash it with a fork. If you prefer a creamier guacamole, mash it more; if you prefer a more rustic guacamole, leave a few larger pieces.
  • 1. Add the chopped red onion, diced tomato (if using), chopped jalapeño (if using), cilantro, and minced garlic clove (if using) to the bowl.
  • 2. Squeeze lime juice over the mashed avocado. Lime not only adds flavor, but also helps prevent the avocado from oxidizing, keeping the guacamole a beautiful bright green. Mix all the ingredients well.
  • 3. Add salt and pepper to taste. Stir and taste to see if more lime, salt, or pepper is needed. If the guacamole seems too thick, you can add a little more lime to loosen the consistency.
  • 4. Serve immediately with tortillas, nachos, or as a side dish for other dishes. If storing, cover the guacamole with plastic wrap, keeping it in direct contact with the surface to prevent oxidation, and refrigerate for up to 1 day.
